The subject matter today is how to drive safely in traffic. My rule of thumb for driving in traffic is don't make a move unless you're sure it's safe to do so.
When you're driving in traffic, you can have a situation where you're kind of boxed in. There may be a lot more cars around, and so it cuts down on your ability to drive safely. The rule of thumb is space. You want to have space around the car to drive a car properly. You have to have space on the left and right sides of your car. You want to have space in front of you and behind you.
When you're driving in traffic and you might have to move from lane to lane, again, you don't want to make a move unless you're sure it's safe. Check your mirrors. Turn your head if you have to. Don't make that lane change. Don't move to the left or the right lane unless you're absolutely sure that there isn't a car there and you're going to be going into a difficult situation.
To sum it up, keep your eyes moving. Get the big picture of what's going on around you. Don't make that lane change. Don't make that move unless you're absolutely sure that it's safe to do so. If you follow those rules, I think you'll have a much better experience when you're driving in traffic.
