New observations of two supernovae: The Crab Nebula and Cassieopia A show wildly differing amounts of a vital component for life to thrive: Phosphorus. A team of astronomers from the University of Cardiff in Wales have measured these two supernovae in an attempt to find out how Phosphorus was distributed throughout the galaxy. What they found was surprising and rather bad news for those of us hoping to find a galaxy teeming with life.
