In the next episode, Mad Mike heads out to Mount Fuji.
The Ebisu Circuit high in the mountains of the Fukushima Prefecture is often referred to as the spiritual home of drift, over the years the track has seen many epic battles between some some of the best drift car drivers in the world. The Ebisu complex is home to seven individual tracks with an additional two skid pads. The second round of the Formula DRIFT Japan Championship is held on the Higashi Circuit which features a 420m long straight and 20 pit garages.
The Ebisu complex is owned by legendary driver Nobushige Kumakubo who developed and built the circuits on family land over a number of years.
Finals day turned on the weather with warm sunshine and a dry track, perfect drift conditions for the Top 32 battles to commence mid morning. 'Mad' Mike Whiddett was second on the grid, up against another FD RX-7 driven by Yamamoto, before the battle began Kawato and his crew had to work furiously to repair a broken throttle cable which happened in the earlier practise session. With only minutes to spare HUMBUL made its way to the start line and dispatched Yamamoto with a door to door chase run followed by a dominant lead run. This pushed HUMBUL through to the Top 16.
