In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew speaks with Andrew St. Pierre from Autel Robotics about the company's newest drone, the Evo – which debuted at CES 2018 in Las Vegas. The compact, folding drone carries a 4K video camera capable of shooting 60 frames-per-second mounted on a three-axis gimbal, as well as a forward-facing computer vision system for collision avoidance. It also has a rear-facing collision avoidance system using an infrared sensor system. At their booth, Autel showed off the Evo's impressive tracking system, capable of following a moving target even in the confined space of the flight cage. The Evo comes complete with a folding control radio, which includes a full, built-in 720p screen that can either be used to display aircraft telemetry or a live video feed from the aircraft – so a smart phone is not an essential accessory. Set to be released “soon,” the Autel Evo is expected to cost less than $1,000.
