In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew test flies the Parrot Disco fixed-wing drone. The review begins with the compass calibration procedure, following prompts from the Parrot app: FreeFlight Pro. The launch procedure involves pressing the “Take Off” button on the SkyController 2 and holding onto the aircraft while the propeller spins up. Make sure to keep your hand well away from the propeller. Once it is turning at full speed, toss the Disco into the air and it will automatically ascend. The Disco is easy to fly, using its on board sensors – including a compass and GPS receiver – to maintain a safe flight envelope. The aircraft cannot experience an aerodynamic stall, for example, and will not perform acrobatic maneuvers – making it idea for new fixed-wing pilots to learn. It also has the ability to loiter by flying in a circle around a fixed point. The Disco's nose-mounted camera is capable of capturing 1080p video, and uses a digital stabilization system that works well to reduce the impact of aircraft movement and vibration on the image.
