Indemnis: Ballistic Safety Parachute for Drones

In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew speaks with Zachary Cawvey, the chief engineer for Indemnis. The company has developed a self-contained, ballistic parachute for drones which deploys at approximately 90 miles per hour to escaple the limbs of a tumbling multirotor in freefall. According to Cawvey, the company's own tests have demonstrated it will function even if the aircraft is rotating 300 times per minute. The Indemnis parachute pod has built in sensors that measure the drone's regular flight performance and automatically deploys the parachute if it drops more than six feet unexpectedly. The pilot is also able to manually trigger the parachute. The systems are expected to ship in November 2017, and will be available for the DJI Matrice M200 and M210, the DJI Inspire 1 and Inspire 2 and the Freefly Alta 6 and Alta 8.
