Believing that the gene pool has become polluted, Apocalypse’s desire was that only the strong should survive, so he created his Horseman to destroy the weak and gather the worthy survivors. To form his team of Horsemen, Apocalypse selected mutants whom he deemed worthy of the honor and altered their minds, powers and physiology to make them instruments of his will.
