Every year in March, the Spanish city of Valencia gets ready for the Fallas, five days of an exuberant celebration punctuated by fireworks and music which always ends in The Fallas are gigantic sculptures made of wood, cardboard and papier-mâché. During the March festivities, hundreds of them are being exhibited at all the squares and main crossroads of the Then, every year without fail, on the night of the 19th of March, all the Fallas become huge bonfires which illuminate Valencia. It is the climax of joyful festivities whose purpose is to celebrate the return of spring.
