In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew describes the danger involved in charging, storing and using Lithium-Polymer (LiPo) batteries – which are used to power drones from all different companies, such as: DJI, Yuneec, GDU, Autel, PowerVision, Walkera, Syma, Parrot and every other manufacturer. If a LiPo battery is overcharged or charged incorrectly, damaged or discharged too far, it poses an immediate risk of fire. To mitigate this risk, the Bat Safe was developed to fully enclose a charging LiPo battery, for aircraft such as the DJI Phantom, Mavic, Spark and Inspire, or the Yuneec Typhoon, Autel X-Star and others. It includes fire-resistant insulation sandwiched between steel panels, along with vent holes to allow smoke and expanding gasses from a battery fire to escape. To maintain a tight seal, the charging cables are inserted into the Bat Safe through a rubber wire way.
