The DIY skate scene is very strong in Vienna, and has a fairly long history. In the past few years, there have been two main crews that pushed the limits of self-made skateparks in town: the Spoff crew and the Alm crew. Between them, they've created the most important outdoor parks. Earlier in 2016, the Alm DIY spot and the Spoff DIY spot were closed. Losing both of them was painful.
When the Alm crew were offered a new space to create a DIY spot, it became an all-hands-on-deck effort with the local crews to rebuild a sacred space for skateboarders to gather and shred. After some blood sweat and tears, the new pool was created, and Thomas Renner, Lukas Supper, Gomez, Jan Hoffmann, Simon Stricker, Maxim Habanec, Lilo Krebernik, Stefan Storn, Lucas Lipowec, Stöpsl, Lisa Veith, and Roland Zolle christened the new concrete with a good old fashioned pool party and shred fest. This is what skateboarding is all about.
