In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew hears from Kevin Haughwout of the Brother Corporation – better known for making computer printers – about the WD-300c: it's latest generation of head-mounted display (HMD) for drone pilots. The WD-300c allows the user to maintain direct, visual line of sight (VLOS) with their aircraft while having immediate access to its video and telemetry downlinks. It incorporates a 720p high-definition (HD) video display, which can be focused to accommodate the eyesight of individual users – without the need for corrective lenses. The WD-300c incorporates a standard HDMI input, making it compatible with drones from different manufacturers, including DJI, Yuneec, Autel Robotics and others. It is powered through a micro-USB cable and is compatible with any cellphone charging battery pack. The kit includes mounting arms allowing it to be suspended over either the users right eye or left eye, depending on their preference. The WD-300c is IP54 rated, making it water and dust resistant. It will be available for purchase in November.
