We all know that North Korea is a mysterious place, and those who visit have to follow excruciatingly strict rules about where to go, how to behave, and what to take pictures of. But sometimes, a photographer or two manages to sneak a few illegal photos that end up with the photographer getting banned from North Korea. We will show you some photographs that capture aspects of daily life in North Korea that Kim Jong-un doesn’t want you to know about. Some of them seem surprisingly mundane, while others are more shocking, as we see tons of soldiers and poverty in these images. While there are some signs of progress, particularly in Pyongyang, things are certainly looking dismal in North Korea.
