First off, please sign up at garagepilots.com where there will be more multirotor 3D printing madness going on:
There is a link to our GitHub page where you can download the 3D source files for the DJI F450 top plate.
I've been wanting to see how rigid of a print I could do. A lot of the parts I've been printing have some flex in them, but this F450 top plate is by far the strongest. You'll see that I can barely flex it in the video. It's not as rigid as the standard F450 top plate, but I believe it should fly just fine.
My goal is come up with simple top and bottom plate design that can be used with cheap dowel rods from Home Depot. This would get the cost of the frame down to a few bucks, while hopefully providing a sturdy design others can make use of.
For the record, my Makerware settings are:
Medium profile with the following changes
- Infill: 15%
- Number of shells: 5
- Layer height: .20mm
The print took about an hour and a half. I'm still trying to nail down the optimal settings so this is an ongoing learning process.
