How Can The Moon Move East During a Solar Eclipse?

There is an eastward component to the Moon's motion across the sky. This is in addition to the normal, daily motion of the moon, stars and planets. The moon actually moves eastward each night at the rate of 0.5 degrees per hour.
This results in the shadow of the moon moving from west to east during a solar eclipse.
