The Solar Corona: What Shape wilt have during the 2017 Eclipse?

In the United States, there will be an opportunity on August 21st 2017 to see a total or partial solar eclipse. Eclipses offer a rare opportunity to see the thin atmosphere around the Sun, known as the Corona.
The moon moves in front of the sun from our perspective, and those fortunate enough to see a total eclipse will be able to see the solar corona, the thin, diffuse and wispy outer part of the Sun. The shape of this outer region, called the Solar Corona, is regulated by the Sun's magnetic field which punches through the upper layer of the sun, and produces streamers and filaments pushing outward into space. Although the corona changes quite dramatically, since we are close to the time of the eclipse it is possible for solar astronomers to predict the main features of the solar corona that we will see.
