Well-known Russian BASE jumper and climber Valery Rozov was the first to jump off Huascarán in Peru, leaping from a height of 6,725 meters above the sea level.
Huascarán is a mountain in the Andes, with the elevation of 6,768 meters, which is the highest point in Peru, and the fourth highest mountain in the South America. Huascarán is located in the Huascarán National Park, and is part of the Cordillera Blanca.
Climbing the South Summit of Huascarán is considered technically difficult and dangerous, because of ice and snow avalanches due to its proximity to the ocean, high humidity, and low temperatures on top of the mountain.
The long-distance and dangerous ascent to the South Summit of Huascarán took five days, with climbing mainly at night. This is due to the fact that at night the air temperature is much lower, and the ice congeals, which makes the ascent safer.
Valery Rozov wants to be the first person to jump off the highest peaks suitable for jumping of this kind on each of the seven continents.
