In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew speaks with Adam Lisberg, DJI's Corporate Communications Director for North America at the 2017 NAB Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, about the company's upcoming Tracktenna system. It provides video and control link with a drone up to 10 kilometers away, and data transfer rates up to 10 Mbps within two kilometers. The radome incorporates a directional antenna array mounted on a two-axis gimbal, which uses GPS data as well as other aircraft telemetry to keep the antenna pointed at the aircraft. The Tracktenna unit includes its own GPS receiver and other sensors, allowing it to be mounted on a moving vehicle while still maintaining an accurate link with the drone. DJI is developing the tracktenna to for use in industrial and public safety applications, such as power line inspection and search and rescue, as well as live HD video broadcasts. Pricing and availability have not yet been announced.
