Our “Why I Vote” campaign gives artists a chance to share personal opinions on the key issues shaping the 2016 Presidential Election. Along the way, they encourage young people, a traditionally under-represented demographic at the polls, to participate in the political process that impacts us all. Each episode focuses on a particular subject, including immigration, LGBTQ rights, mass incarceration, and education opportunities. We’re hoping to galvanize first-time voters interested in shaping their own future.
Our latest episode of “Why I Vote” features Kesha offering her own personal stories and opinions on this issue. She takes us from the childhood hardships of questioning her own sexuality to the recent privilege she had in officiating the same-sex weddings of two dear friends. We also see her visiting the Los Angeles LGBT center in support of safe havens, and actively encouraging voters to use their power everywhere, but especially in states like North Carolina, which has recently passed laws discriminating against the LGBT community. “We as a country do not need to step backwards,” she says. “We need to protect the groundbreaking laws that have been stepping in the correct direction.”
Upcoming episodes of “Why I Vote” will premiere in the next few weeks, and will feature American Authors, John Legend, Becky G, and Rise Against.
