Since the discovery of this system of seven terrestrial planets around an obscure, cool, red-dwarf star some 40 light years away, astronomers and the public have become very excited. Why? What's so great about this system?
Located only 40 light-years away in the constellation of Aquarius, TRAPPIST-1 is estimated to be between 3 - 8 billion years old and is home to seven Earth-size planets, three of which orbit in their star's "habitable zone".
But the jury is still out! The larger exoplanetary science and research community are still vastly divided as to whether this solar system can support life.
Tune in this week as we discuss the TRAPPIST-1 system and deep dive into topics like: what is more conducive to the origin of life -- hydrothermal vents or hydrothermal fields?
