In 1978, a federal court order forced the two largely segregated high schools in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to merge into a single, integrated school. For years, Central High School thrived as an academic and athletic powerhouse in the state. But when the court order lifted in 2000, the school immediately split up into three separate schools. Business Insider Senior Video Correspondent Graham Flanagan graduated from Central in 2000, just before the split. He traveled back to Tuscaloosa to understand why Central ceased to exist, speaking with local officials, former school board members, and classmates.
