Hi, Lisa here. And I'm gonna show you how to use to Find My iPhone feature. So let's say you've lost your phone. What you can do is from a friend's phone, you can go to the Find My iPhone app, and once you're in, you need to sign in with your Apple ID. Once you're signed in, it will locate where your phone is. You can tap on your phone to get a larger view on the map.
You can tap on the car in the upper right hand corner to get directions to where your phone is, and at the bottom in the middle, you'll see a part that has actions. And you click on that. What you're gonna see is the option to play a sound, so maybe you've just lost it in your house. You can play a sound to help find it even if the phone is on silent. You can put it into lost mode, which will lock your phone and display a message letting you put in information about how to return the phone to you.
Or you can erase  the phone, so if now you won't get it back and you have a lot of secure data on there that you wanna wipe out, you can choose that option. These are all great ways, to either locate your phone or protect your data.
