Fact #1. Instant photos make great party favors. Kids love instant cameras. If you are hosting a birthday party, you can snap photos and hand them out to your guests before they leave the party. Everyone has a great time, and your guests have a unique way to remember the day. They are also great for scrapbooking purposes so you can easily look back on all your memories.
Fact #2. They have seen a resurgence and become more popular over the past few years. Although almost all phones now have cameras built in, many people are now looking towards analog cameras. It's a great way to savor the moment even more. You get to actually hold the pictures in your hands minutes after you take them. It adds sentimental value to each and every shot you take.
Fact #3. Despite conventional wisdom, you should not shake the pictures while they are developing. Rapid shaking or waving can actually damage the image. It can cause portions of the film to separate prematurely, or create blobs in the picture. The proper method is to lay it on a flat surface and avoid bending or twisting the picture.
Fact #4. The first instant camera was invented in 1923 by American scientist Samuel Shlafrock. However, it is Edwin H. Land who is credited with the development and marketing of the first commercially used instant camera. Land is best known as one of the co-founders of Polaroid. The company pioneered and patented the models.
Fact #5. The instant camera business almost completely collapsed several years ago. In 2008, Polaroid was forced to file for bankruptcy protection. The company announced that they would stop the production of instant film for their cameras. Thankfully, Dr. Florian Kaps founded a company called the Impossible Project that continued to manufacture the film. The company helped garner interest in this type of photography again.
