In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew speaks with Dave Mathewson, the Executive Director of the Academy of Model Aeronautics. Mathewson describes the AMA's UAS4STEM initiative, launched last year in conjunction with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, noting that the demand for the program from local schools far exceeded the organization's expectations. Students participating in UAS4STEM build and learn how to fly a quadcopter, then embark on a series of assigned tasks that demonstrate how drones might be used to have a positive impact on society. He also describes the new Event Manager membership category within the AMA. An off-shoot of the Contest Director program, it allows individuals to host AMA-sanctioned events that do not involve AMA-rulebook competitions, such as FPV racing, public demonstrations and other activities.
