Other fan-service characters have popped up in the latest Smash Bros. game in the form of costumes for the game's "Mii fighter" characters, and the presentation introduced a few cute entries including a "fighter" costume that looks like Sonic the Hedgehog's Knuckles. However, the standout entry in that costume roster is Geno from the frequently wished-for Super Nintendo game Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. In the presentation, Sakurai confirmed that the costume's release was thanks to an agreement between Nintendo and Square Enix—who co-produced the original game in the '90s—and that will surely inspire hope for an official Virtual Console re-release of the classic action-RPG, which hasn't been relaunched on any platform since Nintendo and Square's messy split during the PlayStation era.
Should you want to spend cash on more than new characters and costumes, Nintendo will also have your back in the form of new Amiibo for all three characters announced today and for recent Smash Bros. DLC entry Ryu from Street Fighter.
