The Flower Carpet Brussels 2014, Opening - Belgium 4K Travel Channel

The flower carpet in Brussels, an experience of the special type, magically attracts several thousands of visitors from all over the world. Every two years, the Flower Carpet Brussels is set up in the month of August. On the Grand Place in Brussels horticulturists create a floral masterpiece of 1,800 m² with 300 Begonias per m².
2014 is the 19th edition of this event. This years design is of an Anatolian kilim (woven carpet) to honor the 50th anniversary of the Turkish immigration, On 16 July 1964, Belgium and Turkey signed the bilateral convention which led to Turkish immigration in Belgium. Today 220000 Turkish born individuals are residing Belgium.
Kilims are an integral part of Turkish culture and are widely spread to Iran and Iraq, as well as to Azerbaijan and to the Caucasus. During Ottoman times, kilims were a status symbol and were presented as gifts to kings and sultans.
Hundreds of volunteers and craftsmen build these elaborate, ephemeral carpet.
Up to 2 years in advance hundreds of thousands of flowers need to be reserved in order to bring them to bloom in the desired colors for the day on the Grand Place.
Just before the opening, 120 volunteers bring color to the carpet, based on a life-sized image drawn on micro-perforated plastic, which is fixed to the ground on top of a fine layer of sand.
The presentation of the carpet is accompanied by a magnificent light and sound show in the middle of the Gothic facades of Europe's capital. A musical theme has been especially composed for this summer display. The concert is held every evening to accompany a splendid sound and light show!

Der Blumenteppich in Brüssel, ein Erlebnis der besonderen Art, zieht alle zwei Jahre zigtausende Besucher aus aller Welt magisch an.
Basierend auf einer weit verbreiteten Belgischen Tradition wird auf dem Grand Place in Brüssel ein 1800 m² großer Blumenteppich gestaltet. Zu seiner Darstellung werden ausschließlich Begonien verwendet.
2014 jährt sich dieses Ereignis zum 19. Mal.
Dieses Jahr wurde zu Ehren des 50. Jahrestag der türkischen Einwanderung ein anatolischer Kelim als Motiv ausgewählt. Am 16. Juli 1964 unterzeichneten Belgien und die Türkei ein bilaterales Abkommen, das zur türkischen Einwanderung in Belgien geführt hat. Heute leben 220000 türkischstämmige Personen in Belgien.
Kelims sind ein integraler Bestandteil der türkischen Kultur und sind bis zum Iran und Irak sowie bis Aserbaidschan und bis zum Kaukasus verbreitet. Während der osmanischen Zeit waren Kelims ein Statussymbol und wurden als Geschenke an Könige und Sultane überbracht.
Hunderte freiwillige Helfer und Handwerker bauen diesen kunstvollen, vergänglichen Teppich.
Bis zu 2 Jahre im voraus müssen hunderttausende Blumen reserviert werden, um sie auf den Tag genau am Grand Place in den gewünschten Farben zum Blühen zu bringen.
Kurz vor der Eröffnung bringen 120 Freiwillige Farbe auf den Teppich. Hierzu wird ein lebensgroßes Bild auf Mikro-perforierten Kunststoff auf den Boden mit einer feinen Sandschicht fixiert und gezeichnet.
Die Präsentation des Teppichs wird von einer herrlichen Licht- und Soundshow inmitten der gotischen Fassaden von Europas Hauptstadt inszeniert. Ein begleitendes Konzert wurde speziell für dieses Ereignis komponiert!
