Venice, my walk 2012

We take you on a walk off the beaten track in Venice - away from the tourist highlights into the district of Santa Croce and Dorsoduro. This area is charming, it's residential, it's mostly local people and of course there are wandering tourists trying to figure out where they are. Checking their map, looking up the signs. Here we are walking along Corte Canal, and there's a little bridge, the Ponte Canal. There is obscure Street Calle de Laca, and then were going to be be walking down through that little archway along Calle de Mezo.
These quiet narrow lanes are the kind of place that you can really enjoy if you have made the three or four days in Venice. If you've only got a day or two, you're going to be running around looking at the main sites, but if you have more time, or this is your second visit, you can enjoy this kind of friendly back streets: lanes that go along canals, little bridges over canals, and sure, lost tourist trying to figure out where the heck they are.
And then soon enough, you're going to come upon one of the major gathering places of the city Campo Santa Margherita, a large fascinating square always busy with local folks out shopping or just sitting around under the shade trees passing the time of day. It is one of the delights of Venice, so pause here for a while and soak up the atmosphere.
Walking along to the Academia Bridge, with the spectacular view looking down to Santa Maria Della Salute at the beginning of the Grand Canal. Be sure to pause at the top for a sweeping view down the Grand Canal.
A few blocks beyond the Accademia you'll come to Calle Mandola, it's another shopping street, with a book store tucked away on a narrow corner. If you walk long enough in Venice you are soon going to hear the music of the gondolas gliding by. We end the episode in the central section of Venice, San Marco Sestiere and the magnificent piazza.
