La Rambla, Barrio Gotico, Barcelona, Catalonia - Spain 4K Travel Channel

La Rambla is a broad boulevard that connects the Plaça Catalunya with the port. It was built on the place of the ancient city wall from 1704. Traditionally, one finds on the Rambla many flower stands, alternating with restaurants. Barrio Gotico is the oldest district of Barcelona. Most buildings date from the 14th and 15th centuries. Narrow lanes full of corners which are often bridged by corridors and living spaces draw the urban features. Already the Romans settled under Augustus this area.
The Rambla fascinates us through the ornately decorated facades but it is so highly frequented by people, that we quickly prefer to explore the Gothic Quarter. We reach the Plaça de la Vila de Madrid that borders the Via Sepulcral Romana.
The Via Sepulcral Romana was a former arterial road to the Roman settlement, where in the past had been a burial ground. Some sarcophagi are exhibited here.
We change to the other side of the Rambla to the Mercado de la Boqueria, the most famous market of Barcelona. A large glass and steel roof covers the market. On the outer sides you find covered arcades corridors, a nice place to eat.
The Placa de of La Boqueria is dominated by a building which is decorated artistically with Chinese sculptures. Obviously umbrellas are sold here.
Back in the Gothic Quarter we enjoy a coffee in front of the church of Santa Maria del Pino and watch the street artists. Through medieval appearing alleys we reach the Passage de la Paz. Artistically decorated transitions connect the houses of the narrow alley.
We arrive at a wide avenue, the Passeig de Colom, and the
Port of Barcelona lies in front of us.

Die Rambla ist eine breite Promenade, die den Plaça de Catalunya mit dem Hafen verbindet. Sie wurde an Stelle der alten Stadtmauer ab 1704 errichtet. Traditionell findet man auf der Rambla viele Blumenstände, die sich mit Restaurants ablösen.
Barrio Gotico ist das älteste Stadtviertel von Barcelona. Die meisten Gebäude stammen aus dem 14. und 15. Jahrhundert. Verwinkelte und enge Gassen, die oft durch Gänge und Wohnräume überbrückt sind, zeichnen das Stadtbild. An dieser Stelle besiedelten bereits die Römer unter Augustus diese Gegend.
Die Rambla fasziniert uns durch die schmuckvoll verzierten Hausfassaden aber sie ist so stark von Menschen frequentiert, dass wir es bald vorziehen das Barrio Gotico zu erkunden. Wir treffen auf den Placa de la Vila de Madrid der an die Via Sepulcral Romana grenzt. Dies ist eine ehemalige Einfallstrasse in die römische Siedlung, an der die Begräbnisstätte lag. Die Sarkophage werden hier ausgestellt.
Wir wechseln auof die andere Strassenseite der Rambla zum
Mercado de la Boqueria, dem bekanntesten Markt Barcelonas.
Ein großes Glas- und Stahldach bedeckt die Stände. An den Außenseiten befinden sich überdachte Arkadengänge, unter denen gegessen wird.
Der Placa de la Boqueria wir dominiert von einem Gebäude, das kunstvoll mit chinesischen Skulpturen verziert ist. Offensichtlich werden hier Regenschirme verkauft.
Wieder zurück im Barrio Gotico gönnen wir uns einen Kaffee vor der Kirche Santa Maria del Pino und schauen den Straßenartisten zu. Durch mittelalterlich erscheinende Gassen erreichen wir die
Passage de la Paz. Kunstvoll verzierte Übergange verbinden die Häuser der schmalen Gasse.
Plötzlich stehen wir vor einer breiten Straße, der Passeig de Colom und der Hafen von Barcelona liegt vor uns.
