Cheerson CX-20 Quanum Nova QuadCopter Drone Stock Range Test [1.4 Miles In the Clouds Hawaii FPV]

Pushing the CX-20 Open source quad copter: Parts: to it's stock transmitter range limits.
This quad recently got a big price drop!
Got some good footage while I was at it. I did this test with 2 consecutive flights using 3dr 5100mah lipo batteries in approximately the same flight path with same results. Fail safe Return To Home function kicked in at about 1.4 miles which isn't bad. The conditions for this test were optimal as I had a fairly horizontal angle from transmitter to the quad and there was no radio interference compared to a more populated area. Still need to work on camera vibration and gimbal setup issues causing some jello effect and gimbal bouncing. Overall the quad handled the clouds well and was able to deal with the moisture.
I was using a 200mw fpv video transmitter which dropped signal at about a mile so next time i'll be testing with a 600mw VTX and then might move on to more directional antennas for more range if needed. I have a 2.4ghz booster on the way for more control range and will also be testing that out next time. I've also installed a telemetry radio set for real time feedback on my Nexus 6 phone which I clamp to the Transmitter while flying (Audio info Call outs are great to have). The telemetry lost connection a bit further than when the fpv video dropped out but not sure how I can improve the range for the 915mhz telemetry other than trying some different antennas.
Video was shot with a Sony As-20 action cam which I also tap into for the FPV goggles I wear and also have another monitor setup for bystanders to watch. Setup is working pretty good. Just need to improve range and work a few more kinks out.
