FPV can be great but there are a few things to consider when you are looking to get into that part of the RC hobby.
The information in this video is based on my personal experience and is not intended to be a comprehensive guide. Always follow the local laws and make sure that you have spotters and others that are needed. Fly safely and responsibly.
It covers the following topics -
The model:
• Plane or multirotor?
o Plane is easier to manage, multirotor are usually smaller and allow for hover
• Can you fly the model 'well' already?
• IS the model trimmed well to fly/hover level?
• Can it be fitted with a GPS RTH/GPS Hold feature in case of a problem?
• Can you record solid video from the model already?
• Expect to crash!
FPV Kit:
• Start cheap -- can you borrow -- try some out?
o Immersion RC TX/Rx and Hobbyking goggles?
o Model you already have?
• Goggles or screen for you?
o Goggles are more immersive but can fog up and issues on focus distance
o Screens are easier to see but are poor in bright light
The first few times:
• Expect to crash
• Take a spotter
• Beware of danger:
o Open field
o No other people
o No animals
o Be aware of local roads and walkways
• Test FPV range before take off
• Fly the model once to get the feel for the wind/area
• Start off slow -- take off/gentle flight/lower altitude
• A seat is a good idea -- you can get dizzy
• Be aware of distractions:
o Noise
o Insects
o Sunshine
