Let's try first person view (FPV) flying with the Air Hogs Helix Sentinel drone! This altitude hold drone includes obstacle avoidance sensors, FPV, and a 720p HD video camera. Find it here
Pros
- Very nice portable carrying case for the quadcopter and its accessories.
- Very smooth and proportional flier without its protective foam ring. Remove the foam ring when flying outdoors for greater flight time and flying experience.
- Camera produces relatively good quality 720p video.
- Includes FPV goggles for use with your smartphone.
- Includes obstacle avoidance sensors to avoid crashing into walls and objects when flown indoors.
Cons
- Internal battery. Can't be changed in the field.
- Although it's possible to fly indoors, strongly recommend flying this outdoors in a large field or backyard. It's just a little too big to be comfortably flown indoors, especially by beginners.
- This descends somewhat slowly. Strongly recommend that beginners resist sending this up high until you have some experience, and are comfortable in controlling it. Otherwise, it may get away from you with a sudden gust of wind.
- This is a WiFi FPV flier. Expect reduced range when using the app as the WiFi operates on the same frequency as the controller. Also expect lag delay of the video as range of the quadcopter increases. This is true for nearly all WiFi/phone FPV quadcopters, and is a tradeoff for eliminating the additional cost of a dedicated FPV video receiver/monitor.
- The obstacle avoidance system doesn't not seem to work well outdoors in bright sunlight. The system's infrared detectors seem to be blinded by the sunlight.
