Is the FrSky Taranis a great radio - hell yes it is!!
In fact, I'd rate it as the best value in RC systems on the market today, without doubt.
However, even the best systems can fail and the new Taranis I bought (with my own hard-earned cash) from HobbyKing only worked for 4 minutes before it failed.
Unfortunately, the fault is intermittent so that when I started probing around inside to measure a few voltages - it suddenly came back to life -- however, if it stopped once it could stop again -- at any time.
The usual technician's tricks of checking all the connections, tapping to try and find dry joints, carefully heating and cooling the circuitry have all failed to reliably cause it to fault again.
Bummer!
I'll leave it hooked up and running in the hope that it will fail again and I'll be able to track down the cause of the fault - otherwise the only option is to pay $100 to ship it back to HobbyKing for warranty replacement/repair and wait however long that might take.
Stay tuned -- I will keep you informed as to the progress.
In the meantime, I *love* my Taranis -- the one that is still working flawlessly.
Should YOU buy a Taranis?
Hell yes, if you can find them in stock anywhere.
