Another BB-8 Droid Prototype update this week, focusing mainly on stability and solving my issue with it only being able to run on carpet.
The reason for this being that on smooth flooring the droid would simply run too fast for the Arduino in the head responsible for stabilization to catch up. I explored a number of possibilities of substances to place inside the bottom part of the droid so that It would be heavier and therefore slower.
In the end, I decided to go with ball bearings to fill the bottom half of the droid, the tricky part was finding the right amount, too little and it was too wobbly but too many and the droid started to fall over with the weight. I think I found a good balance in the end though.
This is part 5 in a full series building the BB-8 Droid from start to finish.
In this series, I film a complete step by step tutorial on how to make a working BB-8 droid with movement, stabilization lights and all, if you’re a fan of the Star Wars franchise then I suggest you check it out, any suggestions on how you think the build could be improved are welcome in the comments section below.

② XROBOTS
Former toy designer, current YouTube maker and general robotics, electrical and mechanical engineer, I’m a fan of doing it yourself and innovation by trial and error. My channel is where I share some of my useful and not-so-useful inventions, designs and maker advice. Iron Man is my go-to cosplay, and 3D printing can solve most issues - broken bolts, missing parts, world hunger, you name it.
XRobots is the community around my content where you can get in touch, share tips and advice, and more build FAQs, schematics and designs are also available.
③ MUSIC AND SFX
The majority of the music and SFX used in my videos is from Epidemic Sound
