At the time of filming, Reef Heazlewood was 19-year-old with a freakish ability to do extremely big airs and perhaps the best unsponsored surfer in the world. We followed Reef on a life-changing journey through the Quiksilver Pro Trials, the Quiksilver Pro, and right into Red Bull Airborne. It’s every bit an underdog story.
Ivy Thomas is born and bred in Coolangatta. She began as a competitive surfer, but was happiest when she was longboarding. With an alternate perspective of the CT event in her backyard, we follow Ivy around Coolangatta, uncovering what it’s like as a woman and a longboarder in a lineup that is overwhelmingly (and aggressively) male, and predominantly shortboarders.          
The two surfers and their stories represent a real juxtaposition, and provide a true glimpse into the surf scene on the Gold Coast.
"SCENE" is a series of three short surf films, made by three young filmmakers, in the same place, at the same time.
