In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew unboxes, sets up and tests the F181C drone from Holy Stone. Selling for less than $100, it is intended for the toy or novelty market, rather than the serious drone user. That said, it is lightweight and handles well, making it potentially viable as a training platform. Begin by attaching the undercarriage skids and the propeller guards, using the included screws and screw driver. The F181C does incorporate a 720p video camera, but without a downlink or transmitter, the images captured tend to be random. Two lithium-polymer batteries are supplied with the aircraft. However, the controller requires 4 AA batteries, which are not included. Each time the system is powered up, a binding process is required. The accelerometers and gyroscopes also require periodic calibration. The F181C has four levels of responsiveness to pilot input, but even the most aggressive setting is easily controllable. It also incorporates an automatic flip function. Flying time actually exceeds the manufacturer's claims, with an average of nine minutes per battery.
