Telescope Talk Hangouts are sponsored by OPT Telescopes:
The Extremely Large Telescope is a 40 meter segmented primary mirror telescope being built right now high in the mountains of Chile. The telescope will become the largest optical, near-infrared telescope in the world and will showcase some of the latest technology.
Among that technology is adaptive optics, the system that allows ground-based telescopes to perform on par with space-based systems while under the blanket of the atmosphere.
Please join Tony Darnell as he talks about the AO systems being designed for the ELT with Thomas Pfrommer, and astronomer at the ESO facility in Munich, to discuss this amazing system.
