Wireless Drone Charging, WITHOUT LANDING! (for real)

In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew speaks with Leonid Plekhanov, the CEO of the Global Energy Transmission Corporation (GET). His company is developing a wireless system that allows drones to quickly re-charge in mid-air, without ever touching the ground. The system is an extension of the work done by famed 19th century inventor Nikola Tesla, who had the goal of providing electric light without wires. It incorporates a series of suspended wires which create a spherical field where charging takes place, approximately 30 to 40 feet in diameter. Upon entering this field, a drone equipped with an appropriate receiver can be fully charged in about eight minutes. Plekhanov sees applications applications in areas such as parcel delivery, security, surveillance, precision agriculture, infrastructure inspection and other use cases.
