QAV500 FPV - Mini Review
I'm super pumped about the QAV500. Although I still really enjoy my DJI Phantom, this baby is in a whole other league. I did a lot of research and picked the brain of my friend Cedric to make sure I didn't make a lot of expensive mistakes when selecting all the components. I'm sure you could spend more on some of the components but so far, everything about this quad has exceeded my expectations, especially the way it flies.
Some excellent quad FPV pilots (Ronin and Steve the Quad Father) recommended that I get the QAV400 because it is smaller, more agile and more like a sports car than the QAV500 which is more like a limo. When I get super comfortable flying quads, I'll add a QAV400 to the hangar so that I can race around with the boys (I hope).
So far, I've had the quad out 800 meters with absolutely no loss or degradation of video signal and I'm starting to slowly stretch out the distance as I get more comfortable flying it and learning how far to push the battery and flight times. With the Futaba 2.4 system, I won't be pushing it much past 1 kilometer just to be 100% safe. Currently, I have my timer set for 10 minutes and I come down with power in reserve. If I want to go further than that, I will reply on the FPV plane that I'll be building next.
I'll try to get a bit of video with the quad without boring you to death.
