In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew speaks with Randall Warnas of FLIR about the results of the company's latest collaboration with DJI: the Zenmuse XT2. The XT2 is a electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) camera developed specifically for DJI's enterprise-class drones, such as the Matrice M200. It incorporates both a 4K visible light camera, as well as a thermal imaging sensor. It is capable of switching back and forth between the two feeds instantaneously, as well as a picture-in-picture display and – through the use of FLIR's patented MSX technology – combining the two to enhance image recognition. In addition, it incorporates four software-enabled features. The first is Quick Track, which allows the camera to lock on to a user specified target and keep it within the camera's field of view even as the aircraft maneuvers. The second is Temp Alarm, which alters the user when a temperature above a specified threshold is visible in the frame – useful for identifying when a piece of equipment is running hot, for example. The third is Temp Check, which uses the camera's built-in radiometric capability to provide an immediate temperature measurement for any pixel on the screen. The fourth is Heat Track, which automatically identifies the warmest object in the frame and maintains the camera's view of it, even as the drone maneuvers.
