X UAV Mini Talon Part 2 - Assembly
A quick(ish) look at the assembly of the Mini Talon sent to me for review by GearBest.com (the plane can be found here: )
I’ve designed the video to go by as quickly as possible so please get ready to use the pause button if you want to stop and check out a photo.
I have decent FPV experience on quads such as the DJI Phantom and my QAV500 but little experience flying FPV with a plane. That is about to change.
They say that you can’t teach old dogs new tricks and if that’s true, I’m screwed.
For this little project I have to learn the following:
Learn how to set up a plane for FPV
Learn how to set up an Eagle Tree Vector Flight Controller
Learn how to program my new Taranis Plus radio with Open Tx (whew!)
Learn how to optimize 1.3 GHz video (yes, I have a HAM License if that matters)
Learn how to set up and operate a UHF DragonLink V3 Advanced System for long distance control (and integrate it with my new Taranis radio….yeah right, no problemo.)
Sometimes I think it would be much easier to stick to line of sight flying but the lure of long distance FPV is strong thanks to the one time I hung out with a friend (you know who you are Eduardo) who let me witness an epic one hour flight up and over some mountains, around a lake and back home. The view was surreal and it was like being Superman. It was just so weird sitting in a lawn chair while piloting a craft through a mountain range. I was hooked.
Providing it doesn’t crash or get lost, this plane will go through several iterations until it has a full load. I’m going to start out with a basic line of sight version to make sure it flies well and then keep adding equipment as I continue to trust her and myself to bring all that expensive equipment back home after each flight.
