We don't get many full-sized aircraft at the Tokoroa Airfield but on this late-summer's day in 2014, an Aviat Aircraft Husky A-1C (complete with bullet-hole) dropped in.
These are a STOL bush-plane with lots of power, a constant speed prop, big cartoony tyres and a very low wing-loading -- which makes for impressively short take-off and landings.
The pilot was a bit too shy to be interviewed but I got some static shots and a take-off.
Even on this hot, calm day on an airfield that is 1200 feet ASL, the Husky gets off the ground in about 100m or so -- thanks to some crafty flap delployment.
This aircraft looks a bit like a SuperCub and would make a great scale model.
