In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew conducts a field test of the PowerEgg drone from PowerVision. This drone features a unique, egg-shaped airframe and retractable landing gear – giving it a sleek appearance in flight. The PowerEgg incorporates a multi-band global positioning satellite system receiver. However, rather than the conventional pairing of the United States' GPS and the Russian GLONASS, the drone relies on GPS and BeiDou – the Chinese satellite constellation. BeiDou is primarily a regional network over the Chinese homeland, although it is currently being built out to a full, global system – so GPS lock is not always quick or easy to achieve. The PowerEgg has three flight modes: Easy, Normal and Professional – each providing the pilot with a greater degree of freedom. One drawback to the egg-shaped design is that the aircraft is completely symmetrical in the air, which can make it difficult for the pilot to determine orientation. A sample of video from the drone's camera is provided. It is capable of capturing 4K video and 12 megapixel stills.
