In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew talks to Lane Walcoff of XDynamics about the company's first drone to market: the Evolve. Built using a monocoque carbon fiber airframe and high-torque motors, it carries a 4K video camera mounted on a three-axis gimbal, built around a 2/3-inch CMOS sensor. The XDynamics controller features two separate screens: a bright, seven-inch screen for live video from the aircraft, as well as a vertical screen between the joysticks to display telemetry and other information. The controller also includes a quad-core processor to allow immediate sharing via social media, as well as editing of photos and video on the controller itself. In addition to the Evolve, XDynamics has three other drones currently in development: the D-02 features an X8 airframe and is designed for professional aerial cinematography. It is capable of carrying digital cinema cameras on a three-axis gimbal. The company is also working on a palm-sized quadcopter and a fixed wing platform.
