In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew unboxes and sets up the FLIR Duo Pro R: a dual thermal imaging/visible light camera designed and built specifically for use on drones. The Duo Pro R simultaneously records up to a 4K visible light video image and a high-resolution thermal image, of either 640x512 pixels or 336x256 pixels. These two images can be displayed individually, through a picture-in-picture display or combined using FLIR's patented MSX technology – using the visible light image to highlight objects in the thermal image. The thermal camera is also radiometric, allowing it to accurately measure the temperature of an object in its field of view. The Duo Pro R kit includes a set of integration cables to connect it with the drone's on-board power supply, as well as PWM inputs to control the camera in the air: changing the color palette, starting and stopping recording and other camera functions. The Duo Pro R also features MAVlink integration and an external GPS antenna, which can be mounted on top of the aircraft, away from the camera, to ensure good signal reception. Video output is provided either through a 10-pin connector, providing an analog signal compatible with First-Person View (FPV) systems and also by a micro-HDMI connector for digital video.
